A "snowshoe hike" through the snowy Oeyama mountain range will be held on January 26th and February 2nd, 2025. The organizers, the Oeyama Onikko Association, a group of nature lovers from northern Kyoto Prefecture, are looking for participants.

The annual hike involves walking on snow using snowshoes and walking sticks. The course starts and ends at Oeyama Green Lodge in Oemachi, Fukuchiyama City, Kyoto Prefecture on both days, and is about a 5-kilometer round trip to the summit of Hatoga Mine (746 meters above sea level) on January 26th, and about a 4-kilometer round trip to Onidake Inari Shrine (640 meters above sea level), famous for its sea of clouds, on February 2nd. Yoichiro Takasaki (73 years old) of the Oeyama Onikko Association calls on participants to "enjoy the snowy scenery that you don't usually see."
Meet at 9:00 a.m. on both days. The course is open to junior high school students and above, with a capacity of 25 people per day. The participation fee is 3,500 yen (6,000 yen for a male-female pair). Snowshoes are available for rental (1,000 yen). Apply through the Kyoto Prefecture Yosano Town Tourism Association website.
