Forty-two *fusuma* (sliding door) paintings by Shanghai-based artist Fang Youmin (82 years old) have been donated to the *Ko-hojo* (Small Abbot's Quarters) of Sennyu-ji Temple in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto. A private viewing for relevant parties was held on August 26, 2026, unveiling a collection of works that vividly depict trees and flowers.
The *fusuma* painting series, titled "Otera Gachirin: A Grand View of the Four Seasons," spans four rooms and features seasonal flora such as peonies, rhododendrons, lotus flowers, maple trees, and heavenly bamboo (*nanten*). Fang, who held a solo exhibition at Sennyu-ji in 2024, created the works to express his reverence for Japan's four seasons. The donation is part of the commemorative projects marking the 800th memorial anniversary of the temple's founder, Gachirin Daishi.
Sennyu-ji Temple stated, "Although the four seasons are disappearing due to global warming, we hope that visitors to this space will be able to feel the changing seasons." The works will be open to the public from September 3 to 6; the standard temple admission fee applies.
