The 24th Tango 100km Ultramarathon, a test of endurance, took place on the Tango Peninsula in Kyoto Prefecture on September 20, 2026. A total of 3,192 participants competed in the event, which featured two categories—100km and 60km—taking on the grueling course.
The race was organized by an executive committee comprising the City of Kyotango, the Kyotango City Sports Association, and others. Attracted by features such as the stunning views of the Sea of Japan, participants entered from 46 prefectures across Japan as well as from overseas.
The 100km category, which saw 2,176 participants, began at 4:20 a.m.—before dawn—with the start and finish line located at Amity Tango in the Amino-cho district of Kyotango City. Runners pushed themselves hard across a course characterized by continuous elevation changes of approximately 400 meters, traversing areas such as Kumihama Bay, the Sea of Japan coastline, and the mountainous terrain of the Ikari Highlands.
In the 60km category, 1,016 runners participated. They started at 9:00 a.m. from Kumihama Park in the Kumihama-cho district of Kyotango City, aiming for the finish line at Amity Tango.
In the men's 100km category, a 37-year-old male company employee from Kitakyushu City secured his second consecutive victory with a time of 7 hours, 15 minutes, and 51 seconds. Marking his fifth overall win, he expressed his delight, saying, "It’s a tough course, but the Tango race suits me well. I was able to pull ahead thanks to the ups and downs that start at the 60km mark."
