At the "Kyoto Tanba/Kameoka Dream Cosmos Garden," which spans the Yoshikawa and Sogabe districts of Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture, approximately 8 million cosmos flowers are nearing full bloom. With the "National Urban Greening Fair in Kyoto Tanba" currently underway in the region, organizers are hopeful for a strong turnout over the upcoming three-day weekend.
The garden opened on October 1. According to the Kameoka City Tourism Association, 20 varieties of cosmos—planted across about 4.2 hectares of fallow rice fields—are currently 40–50% in bloom, with peak viewing expected by next weekend.
On October 8, under clear blue skies, colorful petals in shades of pink, purple, white, and yellow swayed gently in the autumn breeze. Visitors—some carrying their pet dogs, others equipped with cameras—strolled through the flower fields. A 52-year-old woman from Kawanishi City, Hyogo Prefecture, who was visiting for the first time, remarked, "I’m amazed by the great variety of cosmos here."
The garden is organized by an executive committee composed of local farmers and other community members. While the site typically attracts over 30,000 visitors per season, the Kameoka City Tourism Association—which serves as the committee’s secretariat—anticipates between 40,000 and 50,000 visitors this year, thanks in part to the synergy with the Greening Fair.
The garden will remain open until November 8. Admission for high school students and older is 800 yen on weekdays and 1,000 yen on weekends and holidays. For inquiries, please contact the Dream Cosmos Garden at 0771-55-9111.
