"Kyoto Tanabata in Uji", an event held in conjunction with Tanabata on the old calendar, began on August 2, 2024 around Kyoto Prefectural Uji Park in Uji, Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture. Bridges, power plants, tourist facilities, etc. are lit up in purple, inspired by Murasaki Shikibu, creating a fantastic atmosphere in the dark night. It will run until August 4.

"Kyoto Tanabata" is a tourist event that has been held mainly in Kyoto City since 2010. In Uji City, it will be hosted by an executive committee made up of Kyoto Prefecture, Uji City, and tourism and business organizations in Uji City from 2022. A preview was held on August 1.
Lanterns themed on the Tale of Genji, "Uji Ten Chapters", were set up along the Uji River and other areas. Illuminations representing the Milky Way were also held at Tea and Uji Town Historical Park.
Asagiri Bridge over the Uji River was illuminated alternating between purple and rainbow lights. Kansai Electric Power Uji Power Station will be lit up on August 3rd and 4th.
Bamboo grass decorations will be set up in Uji Park and other areas so that visitors can tie paper strips to them. A variety of events will be held in the surrounding area, including the Craft Beer Night Market (August 3rd) in the Ujibashi-dori Shopping Street and the Tanabata Night Market (August 4th), where food and drink booths will be lined up in Uji Park.
