In conjunction with the first gourmet exchange meeting in nine years in Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture, the "Katafuri Food Festival in Maizuru" was held on October 5, 2024 at Maizuru Red Brick Park (Kitasui, Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture) to promote the appeal of food. There were booths and food trucks selling gourmet food and sweets related to the navy, and the festival was crowded with many people.

"Katafuri" is a word used by sailors, and it means enjoying cooking, music and dancing with friends, chatting and interacting with others. The festival was planned by Maizuru City to deepen the local residents' attachment to Maizuru food through its cuisine, and to encourage visitors from outside Maizuru City to return to Maizuru.

The booths of the four cities of Maizuru City, Yokosuka City in Kanagawa Prefecture, Kure City in Hiroshima Prefecture, and Sasebo City in Nagasaki Prefecture lined up with dishes such as navy curry and meat and potatoes, and visitors enjoyed comparing the taste.

The stage also featured performances by the Maizuru Band of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and a comedy show by comedians affiliated with Yoshimoto Kogyo.
