On the morning of January 10, 2025, the coldest day of this winter, heavy snow fell in Kyoto City and other parts of Kyoto Prefecture.




Ginkakuji Temple, Kyoto Imperial Palace, Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, and other places were covered in snow for the first time this winter.
In Kyoto City, the snow started falling intermittently from around 7 a.m., covering the northern part of the city. A meteorological observatory in Kyoto City's Nakagyo Ward observed 1 cm of snow.



In Kamogawa and Arashiyama, snow was falling heavily, and people walking along the streets shrugged their shoulders. Tourists were delighted to take pictures.



The morning low temperature in Kyoto City was -2°C. Parts of the Kamo River and Mizoroike Pond (Kita Ward, Kyoto City) froze over.


In northern and central Kyoto Prefecture, including Maizuru City, Miyazu City, and Nantan City, snow has fallen in earnest, turning Amanohashidate and Maizuru Port into a winter landscape. In Kamiseyaya, Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture, the snowfall exceeded 120 centimeters.


According to the Kyoto Regional Meteorological Observatory, the snow in Kyoto Prefecture will continue until January 11th, and there is a possibility of snow accumulating again in Kyoto City until the morning of January 11th.
