On March 25, 2025, costume fittings and program photos were taken for the spring performance of "Kamogawa Odori" in the Pontocho entertainment district at the Pontocho Kaburenjo Theater in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City. Geiko and maiko came to the shoot in gorgeous costumes in preparation for the opening on May 1.
This spring, 35 geiko and maiko will be performing. 17 geiko and maiko participated in the shoot. They adjusted the sleeves and hems of their costumes and checked their standing positions and the direction of their faces as they proceeded.
Maiko Hidefumi and Ichi Yuri smiled and said, "We hope that the many people who come to the Expo will also be able to see Kamogawa Odori."
This spring, as part of a contribution to the local community, kimonos and obi belts worn by geiko and maiko in tatami rooms and other places will be remade into bags and pouches at a local disability support center and sold at the venue's shop.
The Kamogawa Odori will be held from May 1st to 24th. There will be three performances every day at noon, 2pm and 4pm. Tickets cost from 7,000 to 4,000 yen. Reservations can be made by calling Pontocho Kabukai from April 1st at 075 (221) 2025.
