On August 8, 2026, an event titled "Counting Sheep to Fall Asleep" (organized by The Museum of Kyoto) will be held at the museum's Annex Hall in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City. Attendees can enjoy sheep-themed art while listening to soothing music, including performances featuring the *morin khuur* (horse-head fiddle). The organizers hope the event will allow visitors to relax their minds within the setting of this modern cultural heritage building.
The event was planned by Kyoto-based artist Shinta Inoue (58 years old) and others. Inoue is known for organizing numerous interactive events both in Japan and abroad, often utilizing handmade sheep sculptures decorated with national flag designs.
On the day of the event, sheep sculptures featuring the flags of 203 countries will be on display, accompanied by musical performances such as Gamelan, *morin khuur*, and *khoomei* (Tuvan throat singing). Participants are free to relax and admire the sheep artworks while the music plays. "The tones of Gamelan and *khoomei* are incredibly soothing to the brain," says Inoue. "I invite everyone—from children to the elderly—to come and free their minds."
The event runs from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with free entry and exit. Admission is free. Workshops on making sheep brooches will also be held starting at 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., limited to the first 35 participants for each session.
