The Kyoto Tournament, a regional tour of sumo wrestling, was held on October 17, 2024, at Kataoka Arena Kyoto (Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City). Top-ranked wrestlers and wrestlers from Kyoto showed off their powerful matches, captivating many sumo fans.
A large number of wrestler enthusiasts rushed in from the opening at 9:00 a.m. to watch the practice match. In the "first cut" to introduce the foul play, Wakazakura (from Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City), a third-ranked wrestler, gave a humorous demonstration, livening up the venue.
This was Wakaikari (from Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto City), who was promoted to the new juryo division, and this was his first regional tour since changing his hometown in February of this year. He repeatedly collided with ozeki Kotozakura, and received warm applause for his sand-covered back. There was also a banner of encouragement hanging, and he said with a smile, "I was surprised to see it in the most conspicuous place. People were calling out to me during practice, so I felt the high expectations of others. I'd like to do my best in the Kyushu tournament and have a winning record."
