The autumn leaves are at their best at Oharano Shrine in Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto City. The maples on both sides of the approach to the shrine have turned red and yellow, creating a kind of "tunnel of autumn leaves," pleasing the eyes of tourists.

Koizawa Pond is located in the shrine gardens south of the main hall, which is made up of four buildings similar to those at Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara Prefecture. Koizawa Pond, whose source is spring water, is also known as Monet's Pond because of its resemblance to the famous painting, and in the summer the water's surface is decorated with water lilies. In late autumn, the colorful trees around the pond are decorated, and the water is covered with autumn maple leaves scattered by the wind.

Oharano Shrine is said to have been a favorite of Murasaki Shikibu, the author of The Tale of Genji, and Oharano appears in the work.
