On July 13, 2025, the young children of the Gion Festival's Naginata-hoko (Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City) leave the Naginata-hoko Town Hall for the "Shasan no Gi" ritual to visit Yasaka Shrine in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City. Under the harsh sunlight from the morning, they proceeded east along Shijo Street toward Yasaka Shrine.
The Shasan no Gi is also called "Okurai" and is considered to have attained the rank of "Shogoi Shosho," which is equivalent to the rank of a daimyo with a fief of 100,000 koku. After completing the ritual, the young children, who have become "messengers of the gods," are carried by a man called "Goriki" when moving around, so that their feet do not touch the ground.
