祇園祭の長刀鉾保存会（京都市下京区）は2024年6月6日、前祭［さきまつり］の山鉾巡行（7月17日）で先頭を進む長刀鉾に乗る稚児と補佐役の禿（かむろ）を発表した。稚児は洛央小学校6年西川雅基さん（11歳）＝京都市下京区＝に決まり、「しっかり気を引き締めて頑張る」と意気込みを語った。

On June 6, 2024, the Gion Festival's Naginata Hoko Preservation Society (Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City) announced the young boy and his assistant, Kamuro, who will ride the Naginata Hoko at the front of the Yamahoko procession (July 17) in the preliminary festival. The young boy will be Masaki Nishikawa (11 years old), a sixth grader at Rakuo Elementary School (Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City), who said, "I'll do my best with all my strength."
