Ahead of the Gion Festival's pre-festival float parade (July 17th), the "hikizome" procession of the assembled floats began in the center of Kyoto City on the afternoon of July 12th, 2025. The giant wheels creaked as the floats proceeded down Shijo-dori and Muromachi-dori streets to the chant of "Enyaraya."
The "hikizome" is open to the public, and on this day, lines formed at each float from early on. In the Niwatori-hoko float parade, students from nearby Ikenobo Junior College usually participate in the parade wearing yukata robes, but as student recruitment has been suspended since this year, the students enjoyed the first parade, even though it may be their last time to participate.
