The Kyoto Regional Meteorological Observatory issued a heavy rain warning (flooding) and a flood warning for Kyoto City on the afternoon of July 16, 2025. (It was lifted by 5:30 pm.) The center of Kyoto City, where the floats of the Gion Festival are lined up, was hit by a sudden downpour so strong that it was impossible to see in front of oneself.
