Kamogawa Summer Festival 2025, bringing together local specialties from across Japan, kicked off on August 2, 2025, on the right bank of the Kamo River in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City. A row of stalls promoting local flavors from prefectural associations lined the streets, attracting a lively crowd of local residents and tourists browsing the offerings.
The event is organized annually by an executive committee made up of Kyoto Prefecture, Kyoto City, the Kyoto Chamber of Commerce, and other organizations, with the aim of environmental conservation and local product promotion. Stalls from 34 prefectural associations and 15 cities and towns in Kyoto Prefecture were set up between Sanjo and Shijo Ohashi Bridges.
Freshly boiled corn from Hokkaido, zunda mochi (sweet red bean paste rice cakes) from Miyagi Prefecture, charcoal-grilled chicken from Miyazaki Prefecture, and sardine fish sauce from Ishikawa Prefecture, which is working to rebuild from earthquakes and floods, were all on display.
The maximum temperature in Nakagyo Ward that day exceeded 37°C, but the setting sun was blocked by nearby buildings, creating widespread shade.
