A restaurant owned by the president of a Kyoto City pickle shop opened in Kyotanba Town, Kyoto Prefecture in August. The recommended lunch item is the "Colorful Spicy Curry" (1,500 yen). Pickles and vegetable side dishes are colorfully arranged on a plate and in small bowls.

The curry is mild to make it easy for children and the elderly to eat.
Rice is placed in the middle, and on the other side of the curry roux are pickled carrots and purple cabbage, crunchy purple onions, and a stir-fry of moderately spicy Kujo negi (green onions). The dish centers around vegetables from Kyotanba.
Small bowls are also served with pickled shiba and pickled bettara. When eaten alternately with the curry, the mellow acidity blends perfectly with the spiciness of the curry.

The owner is Sakuo Morita (62 years old), president of Kyoto Morinoya, a pickle shop that opened in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City in 2003. The 170-year-old home of a relative, who "used to visit often in the past," has been renovated into a restaurant and retail space.
The restaurant is located near the Komo intersection, where National Highways 9 and 27 branch off, so it's named "COMO'S KITCHEN."
While the exterior retains the design of an old-fashioned Japanese house, the interior is reminiscent of an urban cafe. Natural light streams in through the glass windows, and the restaurant is barrier-free, with consideration given to the large number of elderly people in the area.
"First and foremost, we want to create a place where locals can relax," says Morita Sakuo. Other lunch options include mild-tasting "Yuba Rice Bowl" (1,500 yen) and "Chicken and Kujo Spring Onion Rice Bowl" (1,200 yen).
You can also purchase your favorite pickles. There are also innovative products on offer, such as pickled shiba (shiba pickles) and freeze-dried pickled radish furikake (a type of seasoning). "It's also recommended as a gift," says Sakuo Morita. While closely connected to the local community, the store aims to create something unique.
