The "Fushimi Sake Festival," a Japanese sake tasting event, was held on March 14, 2026, at the Gekkeikan Showa Brewery in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City. Visitors toured the booths of 18 breweries, sampling their sake and enjoying gourmet food from popular local restaurants.
This was the third time the Fushimi Sake Brewers Association had held the festival, aiming to introduce more people to the town of Fushimi, which tends to attract tourists concentrated around Fushimi Inari Shrine, through the lens of Japanese sake.
The 5,000 tickets for the event were almost completely sold out. Some of the featured sake brands are not commercially available, and visitors enjoyed choosing their favorites at each booth, savoring them with local delicacies such as kasu-jiru (sake lees soup) and dashi-maki tamago (rolled omelet). Some breweries also held open house events in conjunction with the festival.
A 54-year-old woman from Hirakata City, Osaka Prefecture, said, "I came looking forward to being able to sample sake from various breweries all in one place. It's been a very pleasant and enjoyable day."
