The "Spring Rose Festival," where visitors can enjoy the fresh colors and fragrances of roses, began on May 16, 2026, at the Ayabe Rose Garden in Aono-cho, Ayabe City, Kyoto Prefecture. A vibrant array of red, orange, and pink roses are in full bloom, attracting many visitors.
The Ayabe Rose Society, comprised of citizen volunteers, meticulously cultivates 1,200 rose bushes of 170 varieties, and the festival is held twice a year, in spring and autumn.
Located within Ayabe Gunze Square, the rose garden features large-flowered "Anne Frank Roses," symbolizing peace and the importance of life, as well as the vivid red "Alex Red," the striking white "Margaret Merrill," and the deep pink "Maria Callas."
The roses are expected to be in full bloom from late May to early June. Ayabe Rose Society Secretary-General Zengo Araki says, "We hope visitors will find their favorite rose and enjoy its colors and fragrances."
Admission is free. Until June 29th. 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
