On July 23, 2023, the yamabushi of Shogoin Temple (Sakyo Ward) lit a goma on the streets of Ennogyojayama (Sanjo Aguru, Muromachidori, Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City) during the Gion Festival, praying for the safety of the Yamaboko procession of the Atomatsuri festival to be held the next day. This year, Akiyoshi Nomura, 64, the chief priest of Yasaka Shrine (Higashiyama Ward), was present at the event, making tea using water drawn from the grounds of the shrine and the flames of the goma, and dedicating it to the object of worship.
