Lantern making was recently held at the central community center (4-chome, Tenjin) to decorate Shoryuji Castle Park, the venue for the "Meigetsu no Utage," an early autumn event in Nagaokakyo City, Kyoto Prefecture. Fifty-six children and their guardians completed unique works of milk cartons.

The lantern class was sponsored by the Nagaokakyo City Cultural Association and planned as a project to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Nagaokakyo City Cultural Association. About 10 officers from the Nagaokakyo City Cultural Association served as lecturers.

The children peeled off the printed part on the surface of the pack to make it plain. I drew anime characters, fireworks, stars and the sun, etc., cut them out, and pasted colored cellophane on the back.

When each person made two pieces, turned on the LED lights and turned off the lights in the room, the brightly colored designs emerged and cheers arose. There was also a boy who said, "I'm going to see my lantern."

The Meigetsu no Utage is held on September 9th and includes Japanese dance and taishokoto performances. This time, each lantern will be provided to illuminate the aisle.
