“AMBIENT KYOTO 2023'', an audiovisual art exhibition with the theme of ambient music, is being held at two venues in Kyoto City. In the former printing factory on the first basement floor of the Kyoto Shimbun Building (Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City), a collaborative work by musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away in March, is on display.

Making Kyoto a sacred place for "ambient". With this aim in mind, “AMBIENT KYOTO'' was held for the first time last year at the former Kyoto Chuo Shinkin Bank Welfare Center (Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City).

This time, a new underground printing factory site has been added to the venue.

A video work created by artist Shiro Takatani in conjunction with Ryuichi Sakamoto's 2017 album “async'' was projected on a giant LED panel measuring 2.7 meters in height and 26.4 meters in width. Ryuichi Sakamoto's music echoed in the dark, 10-meter-tall space where the rotary presses that print the morning and evening newspapers had been operating for many years, and those involved watched beautiful images of the ocean and forests.

Musicians Cornelius and Buffalo Daughter and Seiichi Yamamoto exhibited at the other venue, the former Kyoto Chuo Shinkin Bank Welfare Center. During the event, there will be a live performance by Cornelius at a separate venue, and author Mariko Asabuki will be streaming a reading of her own work.

It will be held until December 24th. The admission fee for the exhibition is 3,300 yen for both venues.
