The design of this year's zodiac sign, ''Tatsu(dragon),'' has emerged on the ''Flower and Water Tapestry,'' one of the largest three-dimensional flower beds in Japan, located at Uji City Botanical Park (Hirono-cho, Uji City) in Kyoto Prefecture. The dragon's face, made of approximately 3,600 flowers, attracts the attention of visitors.
The tapestry is shaped like a pedestal and is 18 meters long and 62 meters wide. Since the park opened in 1996, he has created various designs using seasonal flowers, and this is his 102nd work. This is Tatsu's third time. More than 100 citizen volunteers helped plant the flower seedlings, which were completed in early December last year. The cost was covered by donations of 2,000 yen per unit collected from citizens as part of the pattern renewal supporter system.
The pattern depicts a dragon facing forward. The yellow nose made from violas and pansies, as well as the part with the red ''2024'' numbers, are said to have slowed in growth due to last summer's intense heat, and have only begun to change color this month. It is said that the colors will become more vivid as the weather gets warmer.
The dragon design is scheduled to be available until mid-May. Admission fee required. Closed on Mondays.
