The Horikawa Cherry Blossom Festival, an event calling for environmental beautification, was held on March 31, 2024, along the Horikawa riverbed (Kamigyo Ward and Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City). There were stage events and food stalls run by local residents, and the event was crowded with many citizens.
It started in 2009 when the riverbed was developed. This is the 13th time the event has been sponsored by the ''Association to Beautify Horikawa and Horikawa Street,'' a group of citizens who work on cleaning along the Horikawa River.
Along the Horikawa River, the cherry blossoms ''Yohko'' with deep pink flowers are in full bloom. The Yoshino cherry trees began to bloom here and there, and visitors enjoyed taking pictures of the flowers and strolling around the music stage and stalls selling yakisoba and cotton candy.
Yoichi Yamada (83 years old), chairman of the Association to Beautify Horikawa and Horikawa Street, said, ''There are many different types of cherry blossoms along the Horikawa River, and you can see the flowers for a long time.Don't litter, and be careful when walking your dog. I want you to protect it and enjoy it."
