On April 1, 2024, Kyoto City announced that the illumination of weeping cherry trees in Maruyama Park (Higashiyama Ward) will be extended for one week until April 14. This is because the flowers are blooming later than usual, and the hours will remain the same from 6pm to 10pm.

It was originally scheduled to run from March 23rd to April 7th. According to the Maruyama Park Management Office, the weeping cherry trees are "almost in full bloom" due to rising temperatures over the weekend, and are already at their peak. Whether it can be enjoyed until April 14th depends on the weather.

Kyoto City prohibits "reserving a spot" for cherry blossom viewing at Maruyama Park, and calls for "cooperation in viewing cherry blossoms in moderation."
