The cherry blossom front is heading north across the lake, and at Kaizu Osaki in Makino Town, Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture, cherry blossoms in full bloom decorate the shores of Lake Biwa. On April 9, 2024, a strong wind blew, and visitors looked on at the short lives of the flowers, which began to fall soon after reaching their peak.
The cherry blossoms of Kaizu Osaki are 800 Yoshino cherry trees that line the lakeshore for approximately 4 kilometers, and have been selected as one of Japan's ''Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots.'' According to the Biwa Lake Takashima Tourism Association, this year the flowers bloomed on April 3rd, the same as usual, and reached full bloom on April 8th.
Visitors had fun admiring the flowers that jutted out toward the water's surface and passing through the cherry blossom tunnel by car or on foot. A 58-year-old woman from Hikone said happily, ''It's her first time here, but she's so beautiful. I've never been surrounded by cherry blossoms like this before.''
