According to JR West and other agencies, at around 4:35 p.m. on May 5, 2024, an employee at JR Kyoto Station in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City contacted Osaka Command saying, ''There is a suspicious object at platform 2 and 3.'' It was there. Police and others are checking the premises, and trains on the Biwako Line, JR Kyoto Line, JR Kobe Line, Kosei Line, Sagano Line, and Nara Line are reportedly delayed. According to passengers on the stopped train, there was an announcement inside the train that a suspicious object had been found and the police were investigating. There is no estimate for when the train will resume operation.
At around 5 p.m. at Kyoto Station, there was a broadcast asking people to ''please leave the platform,'' and the station was said to be crowded with people leaving the platform. There were people nearby asking station staff, ''Is the suspicious object a bomb?'' and ''Can I get a refund for the express train?''
