The spring performance of "Kamogawa Odori" in Pontocho, Kyoto's entertainment district, will open on May 1st at the Pontocho Kaburenjo Theater in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City. The eve of the performance was held on April 30th, the day before, and geisha and maiko performed a gorgeous stage for invited guests.

Geisha and maiko perform a spectacular dance at the finale of the Kamogawa Odori eve festival (Pontocho Kaburenjo, Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City)

The dance drama "Shiragiku no Koi" in the first part tells the story of a junior general from the Heian period and a princess of the white chrysanthemum (a fairy). The fleeting love between the two, who met in the village of chrysanthemums, was portrayed in a gentle manner through dance and drama.

The pure dance in the second part, "Agesuta (Elegant Appearance) Kyoto (Miyako) Water Tour," depicts the scenery of famous places associated with water in the four seasons through a gorgeous dance. The fifth scene was the finale, and the geisha and maiko, who gathered in full force with wisteria flowers in their hands, received a huge round of applause from the audience.

The Kamogawa Odori will run until May 24th. Three performances every day at noon, 2pm and 4pm. 7,000-4,000 yen. Pontocho Kabukai: 075 (221) 2025.
