On May 31, 2025, the Kumogahata-Ashitani Society for People and Nature, a citizens' group active in the Kumogahata area of Kita Ward, Kyoto City, will hold an observation event for the red-flowered mountain peony, a species on the verge of extinction in Kyoto Prefecture, which they are working to conserve.

You will walk along the mountain path for about 2.5 kilometers while listening to explanations from a guide. In addition to the red-flowered mountain peony, which is in bloom, you will be able to observe rare plants such as the Kibunedaio and Tomoe-sou. On the way down the mountain, you can also enjoy purchasing local products from the Kitayama region.
Meet in front of the Ashitani hut in Kumogahata at 9:30 a.m. on the day. To get to the nearby Iwayabashi Bridge, you can take the Mokumoku Bus, which departs from near Kitaoji Station on the subway at 8:40 a.m.
Participation fee is 500 yen. To apply, email the Society for People and Nature at ashidaninokai@gmail.com by May 24. Approximately 60 people will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
