On July 5, 2025, a special summer viewing began at Hokongo-in Temple in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City, known as the "Lotus Temple." Worshippers flocked to the temple from the morning to see the lotus flowers, which are in full bloom, and enjoyed the large, colorful blossoms.

The garden and grounds, which are said to have been landscaped during the Heian period and are designated as a special national scenic spot, are filled with about 90 varieties of lotus flowers, creating a fantastic atmosphere.
According to Hokongo-in Temple, this year the rainy season ended record-breakingly early, and the lotus flowers bloomed about two weeks earlier than usual.
The special viewing will be available until July 27. Admission is open from 7:30 a.m. to noon. There is a fee.
