On July 5, 2023, Yasaka Shrine in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City was the place where geisha and maiko from Gion Kobu prayed for progress in performing arts. Yachiyo Inoue, 66, the head of the Kyomai Inoue school, and about 70 of her disciples, dressed in matching yukatas, visited the shrine and prayed for good health in the summer.
From around 9:30 a.m., the geisha and maiko arrived in yukata, a white background with a design of an indigo fan, and exchanged greetings with "Good morning!" After walking around the main shrine, he prayed.
On this day, the visit was under a cloudy sky, and Yachiyo said, "I prayed that we could all come together and pray that the weather would be a little better. Our hearts and bodies, the Gion Festival and the autumn warm-up party, are finally coming to Miyabi. I prayed that it would be lively and prosperous," he said.
Osendo is an annual event held during the Gion Festival by the "Miyabi-kai" group of Inoue students.
