The cruise ship "Asuka III," which began service in the summer of 2025, made its first port call at Miyazu Port in Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture, on May 26, 2026. Passengers enjoyed the view of the scenic Amanohashidate from the sea and explored the surrounding area.
The Asuka III is operated by NYK Cruises (Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture) and is 230 meters long and 29.8 meters wide. This visit was part of a "Japan Round-the-World" cruise that departed Yokohama City on May 12th and ended in Kobe City on June 4th, carrying approximately 570 passengers.
That morning, the massive white-based cruise ship entered Miyazu Bay, creating a beautiful contrast with the blue sea as it anchored. Passengers then transferred to sightseeing boats to head to Amanohashidate First Pier (Monju, Miyazu City) and other locations.
A welcoming ceremony was held at the pier, where Mayor Masafumi Kizaki presented Captain Toshimitsu Kanzaki with a Tango crepe fabric depicting "Amanohashidate," a painting by the 15th-century ink painter Sesshu. After being treated to local sake and other hospitality, the passengers strolled along the pine-lined path and went up to the observation deck.
