On the night of July 26, 2026, the "Minato Maizuru Chatta Fireworks Festival"—a highlight of summer in Maizuru—took place along the coast of the city's Higashi (East) district in Kyoto Prefecture. Residents and tourists alike enjoyed a display of approximately 4,000 fireworks.
For about 40 minutes starting at 7:30 p.m., large fireworks were launched in rapid succession, drawing cheers from spectators gazing up at the sky from the waterfront and the city streets. The area was also lined with food trucks and stalls.
Maizuru's fireworks festival began in 1976 as part of the "Minato Maizuru Chatta Festival." Since 2023, the event has focused exclusively on the fireworks display, with the venue alternating between the city's Higashi (East) and Nishi (West) districts.
The festivities drew crowds of people dressed in yukata and T-shirts; events included a concert by the Maritime Self-Defense Force Maizuru Band at the nearby Maizuru City Commerce, Industry, and Tourism Center, and a citizens' boat race in front of the Maizuru Rowing Center.
