The Grand Sumo Kyoto Tournament was held on October 16, 2026, at Nisshin Denki Arena Kyoto (Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City). Popular wrestlers gathered for the event, and a capacity crowd of approximately 5,000 fans cheered as they watched the intense bouts.
Part of the autumn tour, this marked the first time the event had been held in Kyoto Prefecture in two years. When local wrestlers Fujinokawa and Ura entered the ring, the venue erupted in especially loud applause and cheers. In the eight-man *makushita* (third-tier) tournament, Ryuho—a native of Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, who was recently promoted to the *juryo* (second-tier) division last month—emerged as the winner. "I feel at ease whenever I return home," he said happily. "The support I’ve received from so many people has truly given me strength."
Meanwhile, a large number of fans gathered along the *hanamichi* (wrestlers' walkway), enjoying the chance to interact with the wrestlers—some even had their babies held by the *rikishi* or asked them to sign their children's school backpacks.
