On the evening of October 17, 2026, the "Bamboo Path: Kaguya’s Evening"—an event featuring bamboo lanterns illuminating a walking trail through a bamboo grove—began in the vicinity of the "Bamboo Path" (Take no Michi) in Muko City, Kyoto Prefecture. Approximately 4,000 bamboo lanterns adorned the tranquil grove, transporting visitors into an ethereal, dreamlike world.
Organized by the Muko City Tourism Association and other groups as part of an initiative to address the issue of neglected bamboo groves, this year marks the event’s 25th anniversary. Following an opening lighting ceremony held near the 6th Koyo Elementary School at 5:20 p.m., the warm glow of the lanterns illuminated the 1.8-kilometer-long Bamboo Path.
As the evening deepened, visitors strolled along the path, following the flickering lights while taking in the beautifully maintained bamboo grove, traditional bamboo fencing, and the soothing sound of bamboo leaves rustling in the breeze.
Additionally, the "Bamboo-Musubi (Bamboo-Tying) Festa" was held at the nearby Children’s Plaza in the Rakusai Bamboo Park (Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto City). Families and other attendees enjoyed workshops using bamboo, as well as dishes prepared with local specialties.
