The Kitano Tanabata Festival, which is named after the Tanabata of the lunar calendar, will be held from August 5th to 13th at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City.
The "Mitarashi River Ashitsuke Toumyo Shinji" is held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (reception closes at 7:40 p.m.). Fee 500 yen (with Mitarai candle). In case of rain, it may be canceled.
Japanese confectionery teahouses and cafes will open from 1:00 pm on the 11th to the 13th near Baien, and in the evening you can enjoy Japanese drums, Noh, and shinobue performances.
From 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm (reception closes at 7:40 pm), a special ritual called “National Treasure Gohonden Stone Passing Ritual” will be held, and sacred treasures and costumes will be specially displayed. An admission fee is required.
