On July 30, 2023, a SUP and canoe experience class was held at Oigawa in Yagicho, Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture. About 30 people, including parents and children, deftly manipulated paddles and glided back and forth on the surface of the water.

The Nantan City Sports Association and the Nantan City Board of Education hold canoe classes every year, and this time we also incorporated SUP, which has become increasingly popular in recent years.
Nantan City officials who have acquired teaching qualifications serve as instructors, and children in grades 3 to 6 wear helmets and life jackets. The SUP, which is about 3 meters long and shaped like a bamboo leaf, moves forward with a single paddle alternately left and right, and learns that if it sticks into the water, it will stop.
Depart near Oigawa Bridge in a seated state. As you get used to it, stand up and keep your balance. Feeling the wind blowing through the river, I slowly advanced to the bottom of the bridge and made a U-turn. I also experienced a "mega SUP" that can ride about 8 people and a canoe that can be rowed while sitting.
