Byodo-in Temple (Uji, Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture), a World Heritage Site, will hold special nighttime viewings starting November 18, 2023. The precincts are lit up, and the National Treasure Phoenix Hall and the principal image of Buddha, the seated statue of Amitabha Tathagata, stand out in the darkness of the night.

Special night viewings are held every fall. This year, to commemorate the 970th anniversary of the construction of the Phoenix Hall, the light-emitting diode (LED) lighting will be digitalized to provide near-natural light from all angles.
During the lighting ceremony for those involved, the Phoenix Hall, which represents the world of paradise, was bathed in gentle light. It was reflected in the pond, creating a dreamlike atmosphere along with the maples and maples that were beginning to change color. Chief Priest Fumiaki Kamui says, ``Feel the soft light in the space.''
Night viewing is available on Saturdays and Sundays until December 3rd and on November 23rd and 24th. 6pm to 8:30pm. Pre-registration is required and is accepted on the website. The capacity is 1000 people per day. 1,500 yen for adults, 1,000 yen for elementary, junior high and high school students. During this period, a limited number of goshuin stamps commemorating the 970th anniversary of the building will be sold for 1,000 yen.
