The American business magazine Forbes has announced the ''Forbes Travel Guide 2024,'' which ranks luxury hotels. Two hotels in Kyoto Prefecture were awarded the highest rating of 5 stars, and 4 were awarded 4 stars. By prefecture, it was the second highest after Tokyo.
The 5-star hotels are "The Ritz-Carlton Kyoto" (Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City) and "Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto" (Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City). Mitsui opened in 2020 on the site of the former residence of the Mitsui general family, and the majority of overnight stays are from overseas visitors.
``Roku Kyoto LXR Hotels & Resorts'' (Kita Ward, Kyoto City), an American Hilton affiliate that opened in 2021, was newly added to the 4-star category, increasing by one hotel from the previous survey. Three other hotels, including The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Shimizu (Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City), which was renovated from the former Shimizu Elementary School, were selected for the second time.
By 5-star and 4-star cities, Tokyo had 24 hotels, followed by Kyoto, Osaka, and Okinawa. In major Asian cities, there are 26 in Macau, 16 in Hong Kong, 13 in Bangkok, and 7 in Seoul.
Forbes Travel Guide began in 1958 and currently ranks hotels in approximately 180 cities around the world. Kyoto and Osaka joined in 2017. Experts conduct an undercover investigation based on approximately 900 criteria.
