On March 1, 2024, when the spring fire prevention campaign began, street awareness activities and fire drills were held in Kyoto City. At the Kamishichiken Kaburenjo in Kyoto's Kamigyo Ward, where a spring dance performance was to be held, maiko and other dancers trained with serious expressions in preparation for a fire during the performance.
It is assumed that the fire broke out in the kitchen on the first floor during the ''Kitano Odori'' dance performance, which opened on March 20th. A total of seven people, including Kamishichiken's self-defense fire brigade and maiko, participated.
Participants were responsible for guiding spectators to evacuate, calling 119, and using fire extinguishers to extinguish the fire initially. I confirmed the procedure in case of an emergency. Ichiyu, an 18-year-old maiko who helped guide the evacuation, said, ''I want to remember what we learned from today's training and be prepared in case of an emergency.''
The spring fire prevention campaign will continue until March 7th with the motto ''Extinguishing fires, extinguishing anxiety, and connecting the future.''
