At the Lake Biwa Canal Memorial Museum in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, a wood-grained terrace has been unveiled where you can take a break while watching the flowing canals and fountains. A cafe will also be open for a limited time, with the aim of increasing the number of tourists visiting the museum.

The terrace is a redeveloped plaza of approximately 260 square meters on the canal on the first basement floor of the Lake Biwa Canal Memorial Museum. The space, which was previously tiled, has been renovated to look like a wooden deck, benches and tables have been installed, and the building will be open for use on March 21, 2024. A new staircase was also constructed that allows guests to descend from the entrance on the first floor to the terrace without having to go through the building.

Next to the terrace, ``Sosui Cafe'', a coffee shop opened last year in a renovated warehouse, will be open until May 6th. Due to the redevelopment of the terrace, customers can now enjoy snacks and drinks not only inside the store but also outside.

From the terrace, you can also go to the Keage Incline, which is known as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. The Kyoto City Water and Sewerage Bureau, which operates the Lake Biwa Canal Memorial Museum, hopes that it will be used as a resting place for tourists and says, ''We want many people to relax and become familiar with the canal.''
This summer, we are also planning to construct a new entrance on the south side of the 1st floor of the Lake Biwa Canal Memorial Hall in order to make it easier to enter from the direction of Nanzenji, and to make it easier for food trucks to enter.
Closed on Mondays. Free admission. Temporarily open on April 1st.
