On November 3, 2024, the "Sonobe Machinaka Halloween" was held in the center of Sonobe-cho, Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture. About 120 children dressed up as witches and popular characters walked around the shopping district and alleys while receiving sweets from residents.
This is the second year since the event was planned by an executive committee made up of young business people. Children dressed up as witches with brooms, police officers, or in cardboard costumes made to look like robots walked along a set route.
At each tent where residents were waiting, they shouted "trick or treat" in unison and received snacks. In the grounds of Hofukuji Temple, which was included in the route, a ghost suddenly appeared, causing people to scream.
A fourth-grade boy (10 years old) at Sonobe Second Elementary School had a bag full of sweets in his hand and said, "I tried on a T-shirt with a cute ghost pattern. It was fun to go around the town." He enjoyed himself.
