Camellia japonica, known as "Sarasouju", which is mentioned in the Tale of the Heike, is in full bloom at Torin-in, a sub-temple of Myoshin-ji Temple in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City. White flowers fall in the mossy garden, pleasing the eyes of the worshipers.

The transience of the camellia that blooms in the morning and falls in the evening reminds us of the transience of the world. In Japan, it is compared to the Sara Soju, which is said to have been the place where Shaka passed away. In the Tale of the Heike, it is written that it 'represents the principle of prosperity and decline'.
At Torin-in, a special opening began on the 12th, and a flower memorial service was held to offer incense to the garden. The flowers are said to have started blooming in early June this year, and worshipers quietly gazed at them from the porch of the main hall.
A 62-year-old woman from Nishio City, Aichi Prefecture, said, "She feels refreshed when she thinks that people in ancient times have also seen her." Paid special release until the 27th.
