On the morning of December 15, 2024, when the cold front flowed in and the temperature dropped, the lowest temperature of the season was recorded in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, at 1.6 degrees Celsius. In the northern part of the city, such as Kita Ward, buckets and puddles were frozen, and it was bitterly cold.
According to the Kyoto Regional Meteorological Observatory, the minimum temperature in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, was 1.6°C, as cold as mid-January. The first ice or snow was not observed, but in Kita Ward in the northern part of the city, puddles and buckets on the Kamo River riverbed had frozen over. The area around Mizoroike Pond in Sakyo Ward was completely white with frost.
Snow also accumulated near the peaks of Mount Hiei and Mount Atago, and the white peaks could be seen from the city.
