On January 13, 2025, Yasaka Shrine in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City held the "Traditional Arts Festival to Celebrate Coming of Age," where traditional performing arts were dedicated to celebrate the new beginnings of new adults. Imayo and Japanese dance were performed on the Noh stage, creating a festive atmosphere in the shrine grounds.
The event was organized by the Japan Traditional Performing Arts Group (Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City), which is made up of performing arts groups from Kyoto Prefecture. They have been making annual offerings for over 70 years.
On this day, about 60 people from nine groups performed. Elementary school students from the Japan Imayo Uta Bugaku Association, dressed in traditional Shirabyoshi costumes, also took to the stage and performed gracefully. There were also performances of Shigin and Biwa, which drew fascination from worshippers.
Ishihara Satsuki, representative caretaker of the Japan Traditional Performing Arts Group, said, "We made this offering in hopes of the healthy growth of the new adults."
