The "Matsuo's Lonely Cherry Tree" in Matsuo, Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture, is in full bloom. Photography enthusiasts have been taking pictures of the Somei-Yoshino cherry blossoms, which bloom on the Seya Plateau at an altitude of about 500 meters, swaying in the wind with Miyazu Bay and rice terraces in the background.
The Lonely Cherry Tree was planted by local resident Heiichiro Mizoguchi (81 years old) about 50 years ago, and was once cut down for field development, but a sprout sprouted from the stump and grew again. The site has also been used as a filming location for movies, and attracts visitors from other prefectures.
The cherry tree is located on the side of a road that runs through rice terraces waiting to be planted, and countless pale pink flowers are in bloom. A man (54 years old) working in the hotel industry (Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture) who was taking pictures said, "You can look down on the sea and there are rice fields, so you can feel the original Japanese landscape."
According to Heiichiro Mizoguchi, the view will be available until around April 20th.
