Mizuya, a lodging facility in Tsuruga, Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture, which incorporates the culture of the Tango region of Kyoto Prefecture, is selling elaborate Japanese-style shaved ice at its cafe and bar, expanding its reach to non-guests.

Mizuya was opened in May by Kyoto Prefecture Textbook Sales (Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City), a textbook wholesaler, and is operated by Kyoto Tango Kikaku (Yosano Town, Kyoto Prefecture). Cafe and bar Karyo Ukigumo offers sweets inspired by Miyazu City's scenery, but has also created two types of shaved ice to attract local residents.
The "Matcha Shaved Ice" (1,300 yen) features fluffy, cloud-like ice topped with matcha from a local tea shop, and the "Anmitsu Shaved Ice" (1,600 yen) features milk ice cream and agar from Kyotango City, served with Japanese black tea chai syrup.
The shop has tables with waterways, and customers can enjoy toppings such as adzuki beans floating on trays. The 26-year-old woman who came up with the menu said, "We've created a shaved ice unique to Ukigumo that allows people to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere."
