A fire broke out at around 7:50 pm on November 29, 2025, at a restaurant on Kiyamachi-dori Sanjo-sagaru in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City. According to the Kyoto City Fire Department, the fire was extinguished by the morning of November 30.
According to the Kyoto Prefectural Police Nakagyo Station, there were around 50 customers in the restaurant at the time of the fire, but everyone evacuated and no one was injured.
A male employee in his 20s at a restaurant in the building next door said, "We heard sirens and after a while smoke started coming in. We went outside to see what was going on and there was a huge amount of smoke."
The incident occurred across from the Pontocho Kaburenjo Theater, facing Pontocho-dori, known as one of Kyoto's five geisha districts. There was a brief commotion among customers and employees of nearby restaurants.
