Major discount retailer Don Quijote (Tokyo) will open its first inbound tourist-focused store in the Kansai region, the Don Quijote Shijo-dori Store, on February 10, 2026, along Shijo Street in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City. The company announced the opening on January 20. The store will stock souvenirs, sweets, cosmetics, and other products popular with visitors to Japan, aiming to capture the robust spending of foreign tourists.
The store will be located in a building on Yanagi-no-Baba Higashi-iru, Shijo-dori. The store will have one basement floor and three aboveground floors, with a sales floor area of approximately 700 square meters. It will stock only Kyoto souvenirs, such as sweets made with Uji matcha, as well as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, character goods, and other products popular with visitors to Japan.
This will be the company's third inbound tourist-focused store nationwide, following stores in Tokyo and Okinawa. For the first time, the store will also offer takeout fruit skewers.
The store will feature a Japanese-style interior and numerous duty-free cash registers. The store will increase the number of foreign language signs and have multilingual staff available at each time of the day.
Opening hours are 10:00 AM to 1:00 AM the following day. The company stated, "The store is close to popular spots with foreigners, such as Gion and Nishiki Market. It is also one of Kyoto's top shopping areas, so we want to further expand the enjoyment of tourism."
