The recent warm weather has brought the Gion Weeping Cherry Tree in Maruyama Park, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City, into full bloom. Its pale pink blossoms stand out beautifully against the blue sky, and at night, the illuminated flowers vividly color the night sky.
Maruyama Park is a nationally designated scenic spot. It is one of Kyoto's most famous cherry blossom viewing locations, with approximately 450 cherry trees, including weeping cherry trees and Somei Yoshino cherry trees. The magnificent symbol of the park, standing proudly in the center, is 98 years old, standing 12 meters tall with a branch spread of 10 meters. It is affectionately known as "Gion's Night Cherry Blossoms" or "Maruyama's Weeping Cherry."
On March 27, 2026, tourists visited day and night, enthusiastically taking photographs. The tree is illuminated from 6 PM to 10 PM until April 8th.
